Welcome to my channel, it's all about scale modelling, with a lot of Aussie humour and some very bad banjo playing thrown in for good measure. I build a variety of subjects and go through my personal methods to share what I know with the community. Mostly I just have fun and there is a lot of waffle, but the jokes make up for that. So sit back, make some popcorn and share the fun of scale modelling with me.

Airfix Norton Commando 750 - Finding Airfix Rare Kits Humourus Box Open Review
I picked up this rare kit for a song. This is a beautiful example of a 70's Airfix kit, clean, crisply detailed and should fit well, with a little fettling. What more could you want? It had been started but 99% of the assembly still needs to be done. I go through the instructions and show you the kit parts in my humorous style.

8:13 Those Ertl/Imai are excellent kits, possibly the best plastic kits available. If you can find them snap them up quickly.
They certainly are.. I have snaffled a few over the years.
Wow cool kit, remember these bikes back in the day, awesome vintage kit, 1/8 Scale nice no glasses 😂 sweet looking forward to the build 😊🍻🍻🇦🇺🤝🇦🇺🦘🦘🌨🌨🏔🏔
Don’t hold your breath… my workbench is full of Battleships and Galleons which need to get fitted ready to go to sea first.
@@HarryHoudiniModels 🆘️ I'm going purple 🤫😂😂 understand get rid of those sailors ⚓️🛳🚢⚓️😂😎🦘🏔🇦🇺🍻🍻
I didn't know these AirFix productions. It's very interesting. This reminds me of the (regretted) ESCI kits from the 70s. We would like to find more models of this style on the sellers' shelves!
Apparently it is a rebox of a Heller kit from 1970. So look for Heller kits in this series. They rereleased this one again in 2015.
From the size of the box, I thought it would be 1:1. You could build it, and ride it away. Hi-ho Silver, away! With the rubber chain. Love it.
Yes I thought so too Paul. However, as viewers have surmised, Airfix did their own tool motorcycles in 1:16, like my BMW. The Norton is a Heller rebox of their motorcycle series in 1:8. This explains at least the difference in size of the models. However the large box could be a response to Tamiya, who at the time also had a motorcycle range in enormous boxes.
Looks this will be a fun kit to build Harry. I am keen to see how you handle ‘doodads & doohickies’ that you mention when you get to build this one. Cheers mate!
Doodads and doohickies are best attached with thingamajigs and watchamacallits. Luckily I have a full tool kit by BitsnBobs.
The front mudguard’s top fixture, which is also a form of fork brace, is angled backwards when it should be directly under the yokes.
Good to know.. thanks for the info
A great British kit of a great British bike, what could be better!? I could think of one word that led to that big box * cough * Tamiya * cough *! Yeah, they'd done some big bike kits by then too, so Airfix had to give theirs a bit of shelf appeal. That Norton would have sounded amazing too, not like all the rice rockets that killed it off, they sound like annoyed mosquitos! Come the weekend I'll get to enjoy the Brit bike sound again when I'll be on here watching drag bikes and chatting with a bunch of your fellow countrymen. Can't wait!
The Tangerine menace strikes again! Thanks for commenting Roger
@@HarryHoudiniModels No worries!
I never knew Airfix did the Norton Commando. I have a vintage Heller kit NIB and wonder if they’re from the same tooling. I’ve rebuilt several of the real thing but can’t afford one now.
It does appear, now I have actually done some research, that the original tooling was by Heller in 1970. Airfix reboxed it in 1979-1980. Heller has rereleased the kit a few times since then, and recently in 2015. So you can still find it here and there, however nothing beats a white box Airfix release :)
Great motorbike kit for a "take a break" and to re-charge the mojo! Cheers Harry, lovin' it mate 👍😁🐈⬛🦘🇦🇺
I would love to start the Norton kit, but must first clean up my 20 odd WIP and complete a few languishing battleships I have long promised to finish. No rest for the wicked.
Airfix classic motorcycle kits from the 60s were 1/16 scale. Much smaller than these big 1/8 kits they shared with Heller somehow. I got the magnificent 1/8 Honda CB750/4 for Christmas back in the day.
That would explain the scale of the Airfix BMW R69 I built
Tamiya still rules the 1/16 rc tank market, expensive but great I would absolutely love them to do 1/10 tanks in the future Sorry to hijack the discussion
Thats fine… they do great kits in certain niches… just none of my interests at the time of making this video. However I was recommended their old series of big scale 1/12 F1 Cars and am now building the Honda F1, plus bought a number of other F1 Tamiya racing cars in that series. Lovely old kits with plenty of fiddly parts. Just my thing,
I haven't done any motorcycle kits, but I would love to get my hands on that one. It would be out of this world if they included parts for a cafe racer version.
Heller still produce the kit, apparently Airfix stole it for my white box version. It was last reboxed by Heller in 2015 John
Great video, Harry - diminished only for the advert for some Aussie beauty product, which as a 66 year old in UK I doubt I'll be buying, but that's not your doing (or is it?😂🤨😂)
Ah that would be the Bask Cat kitty litter cream… will take years off your wrinkles… the downside is you smell like cat turd.
Nice snag, I`m looking forward to seeing the build. I got lucky a few weeks ago and found the 1/76 scale SAM-2 at a toy collectables shop, missing the seat but I can scratch that part easily enough
Always nice to find a rare or unusual kit at a bargain price.
If you want to know the scale, measure the rim size. The real motorbike had 19 inch weels
Yes I think I did that with the BMW when I did the video and worked out its true scale, of about 1/12 from memory.
Don't you hate it when your leather jacket shrinks in your closet😂
It is very annoying Rick… how will I go to the biker bars now and pickup a trashy lassy?
fark queue Harry you always seem to find the good stuff
Winner are Grinners mate
My dad had an ex police bike, what a sound it made 😉👌
My father had BSA which were similar… love those old bikes
Do I see Harry long gone belong mounting the said sheela 😊
If you mean Bask, then she is a cat! But yes I used to mount motorbikes and had a number of Triumphs before my accident.
I would like the actual bike Harry! 😍 That kit looks very nice too.
Me too Ronald, although with disc bakes!
@@HarryHoudiniModels And with real carbs or fuel injection and fake carbs ( like modern Triumphs)?
Holy schnikies, a plastic model kit . My sacrifices to the styrene gods worked . Hail Styros! Kitty , bring me another live chicken !
Bask, someone is burning chickens again!
Hello Harry, i am usually not interested in motorcycle-kits, mainly in ships, but i like your "Rare-Airfix-Kit-Series". The words on the small paper-sheet are in german-language. "Visier verwendbar für .." means "visor usable for...". This is for the visor of the helmet, but i dont know what "RS, RT, RF" means, propably it is usable for other helmet-types? Greetings from Gernany!
Thanks for the translation Hein… sadly no helmet or visor in my kit.
Hi Harry, Really nice kit, I built the Revell BMW R75/5 Wunderbike 1:8, It's a similar kit and it's great. I said I built but I didn't finish...yet, the problem with these kits are always the decals, either they are old, stained or still usable but out of register, that's the case with my BMW, I tried to re-draw and print new decals, it looks all right but not great, inkjet decals are pixelated, so I look for after market, things, I found BMW pins, they look great but a bit too big...it's going to be a long quest. I also have the Triumph 3H 1/9 Ertl - ESCI (in the box) , beautiful antique bike, once again, great kit, bad decals : pinstripe too thick and yellow instead of being gold. I'm finishing my Fiat 1907 Pocher, and so far it looks really good, I put a lot of hours (years) on this one. Good continuation👋🏻
Thanks Yves… I was looking to get the Revell BMW R75/5 but it was sold out last time I looked
Nice find there Harry
Thanks matey… made me smile
Never seen that kit, would like to find one, it would be cool to get a BSA motorcycle kit like that
Heller still make the kit. Airfix apparently just reboxed it.
Is it the old Heller kit? These old Brit bikes are alright, but with modern fuels and modern road conditions, they can be a bit of handful to get along with. If there was decent Triumph Trident kit out there, I'd want that.
Yes it is the Heller kit reboxed by Airfix. Should have done my research before making the video. Heller last released it in 2015
Great find Harry. Impressive kit and Bask can fit in the box nicely.
That’s where I keep my spare cat
Yea great kit but it's a heller original mould kit from 1970 so won't be re-released heller also did it as a scrambler bike and a chopper version too airfix released it in a bigger box heller was half the size box.
Thanks for the info
No problem Harry
Wasn't aware that Airfix even did such a kit. Looks great.
Apparently its one they stole it from Heller
@@HarryHoudiniModels 🤔😲😉🤭🤭😀😀👍👍
Lovely old kit that follows the full sized quite accurately. Airfix need to re release it.
It would be a lovely one for their Vintage Classic series, but maybe in a smaller box perhaps?
@@HarryHoudiniModels yes mate but at a reasonable price. I'd get one.

A great find Harry.
Was in a deceased estate from memory.. Paul gave it to me for a few shekels a while back
When I worked for SAAB in Sweden, one of my colleagues had THREE Norton Commando bikes, the Fastback version and one of them was yellow! You could hear him for AGES before he showed up the works parking lot! What the HELL happened to motorcycle design!? 🤨🤔😥😉😆😂
At least Triumph still does the retro styling
